Test Beds

The four test beds of the CCEFP were chosen to best represent the research challenges of the center’s four main goals:

Test Bed 1: Mobile Heavy Equipment—High Efficiency Excavator

Goal represented - Improve energy efficiency by ten percent in the agriculture, mining, construction and manufacturing sectors to achieve an annual energy savings of an estimated $9.8 billion.

Test Bed 3: Highway Vehicles—Hydraulic Hybrid Passenger Vehicle

Goal represented - Improve energy efficiency by ten percent in the passenger vehicle sector to achieve an annual energy savings estimated at $20 billion.

Test Bed 4: Mobile Human Scale Equipment—Fluid Power Rescue Robot

Goal represented - Develop new technology in fluid power-based fuel and actuation systems that will provide 10 times greater energy and power density than current batteries and motor drives provide.

Test Bed 6: Human Assist Devices—Fluid Power Assisted Orthosis

Goal represented - Make fluid power more acceptable and its use more widespread in human interface devices by making it quieter, safer and cleaner than current technology allows.
