From the Director
The most important news from the last few months is that the National Science Foundation has officially renewed the CCEFP for another four years. Congratulations to all of you who made this possible. I am also pleased to announce two newly funded associated projects—both originating in CCEFP-initiated research—that are highly relevant to the future of fluid power.
Research Highlights
Start Up Friction – Understanding and Control
The fundamental lack of understanding in the scientific and engineering communities of static friction has limited our ability to integrate start-up friction optimization methods into the design process. In this article, Professor Ashlie Martini discusses this issue as it relates to hydraulic motors and systems.
Activities
CCEFP Student Retreat
SAVE THE DATE: CCEFP Student Retreat, August 4 - 6
Student Leadership Council
The new SLC board would like to recognize the role of the former President, Keith Waite and the former Vice President, Chris Williamson, in making the 2008-2009 successful. Their leadership was instrumental to finding constructive means by which the student voice could be better represented. We would also like to thank the other SLC representatives for their hard work and dedication to buliding a stronger SLC.
Outreach
Fluid Power Scholars Program
The Fluid Power Scholars Program, a collaborative effort between the CCEFP and seven corporate members of the Center, launched June 1. This summer program identifies and connects outstanding undergraduate engineering students across the United States with fluid power manufacturers and users. It represents an important new addition to a growing number of CCEFP- and industry-led efforts focused on preparing the next generation of fluid power leaders.
