JOB DESCRIPTION

Enfield Technologies of Trumbull, CT, is seeking a full-time intern pursuing a degree in engineering (BSEE/MSEE or BSME/MSME). Past internships have involved students undertaking multiple simultaneous projects such as:

  • Design and construction of an automated product testing system for use in Enfield Technologies’ laboratory
  • Modeling and design optimization of hydraulic flow paths
  • Control system design for a motor driver and associated electronic circuit design, microchip programming, component selection, board layout, prototyping, and testing
  • Design for manufacturing including the development of production assembly procedures with on-site implementation at a key subcontractor
  • Naturally, projects will be tailored to the skills and interests of the candidate and balanced with the needs of the company. As a small firm, candidates have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on real customer applications and new products being brought to market.

Enfield Technologies is a controls oriented electro-mechanical technology company (mechatronics) where solving problems typically starts with identifying the underlying physics and mathematics. As such, the distinction between electronic and mechanical engineering is often blurred, as is the distinction between science and engineering.

A successful candidate will be seeking to develop a solid science and engineering background in classical physics, mechanical engineering, electronics, and control theory with the objective working in industry.

Candidates should have a strong foundation in one of the above courses of study with exposure to the others; and all candidates must have strong math, computer, and communications skills.

Software design tools used by Enfield Technologies include 3D CAD, LabView, MatLab, CFD, FEA, fluid power circuit simulation, electronics design/simulation, and magnetic modeling.

    ABOUT THE COMPANY

Enfield Technologies is a development stage industrial technology company servicing a variety of markets including advanced automation machinery, test and measurement instrumentation, product development and testing laboratories, robotics, animatronics, and specialty equipment such as medical devices and aeronautic testing systems. Our customers include some of the most recognized brands and advanced laboratories in the world.

As an entrepreneurial company specializing in advanced control systems, we have a collegial team work atmosphere and an orientation toward science, mathematics, and technology. Core products are based on a specialty electro-pneumatic high-speed proportional control valve system composed of an electro-mechanical servo valve and a device-dedicated electronic controller. The main applications are the closed-loop control of motion, pressure, force, and flow.

Examples of specific applications include automation such as robotics and machinery for assembly, processing and packaging machinery; quality control equipment for development and production such as artificial limb fatigue testing and high-performance tire testing; animatronics used in amusement park displays and motion picture special effects; medical equipment and devices such as cell growing machines and life-support ventilators; and laboratory instrumentation such as displacement-force profilers and high precision pressure sensor calibrators . Our customers pay a premium for our specialty systems that help solve challenging control requirements.

The company is located in the Metro New York City area, near the coastline in the northern suburbs (access to NYC 45-60 mi by local commuter rail) and about 30 minutes south of New Haven CT (Yale University). Boston is about 2 hours north.
