With 2010 sales and revenues of $42.588 billion, Caterpillar is the world's leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives.The intern will be part of a team of experienced engineers developing next generation electro-hydraulic systems for off-road machines.  The intern will support a team concepting and developing electro-hydraulic systems under the direction of an engineering mentor.  The intern will use tools such as test data analysis software (e.g. LabView or Matlab), dynamic system simulation tools (e.g. Matlab/Simulink), and hydraulic system schematic design tools.  The intern may also have the opportunity to support lab or machine testing of electro-hydraulic systems.  The work group is an advanced engineering and applied research group focused on providing future Caterpillar machines that are more productive, have a lower environmental impact, cost less to operate, and provide product differentiation for our customers. Candidates with senior level or graduate student status and previous experience with fluid power, e.g. CCEFP research projects are preferred.

Sun’s products allow machine designers to develop innovative and efficient control systems for all types of capital goods. Our hydraulic valves and packaged manifold systems work accurately and reliably, no matter how demanding the application.Sun Hydraulics Corporation in Sarasota has engineering internship opportunities available for spring / summer 2012. We generally try to fill these openings by spring break. Positions available are in valve and manifold product design groups as well as manufacturing engineering group. Hands on, self-motivated sophomore, junior, and senior students from mechanical, electrical and particularly manufacturing engineering programs are encouraged to apply. Previous internship experience in a manufacturing environment is useful, but not necessary. After an initial “shop tour” in which the student will work briefly in each of the manufacturing departments, an experienced engineer will act as a mentor for the student to complete a project. This position would be assisting in preparing hydraulic system and/or test specifications. Simulation studies for new technologies evaluation or for the verification of the proposed software would be a part of the job responsibilities. Job Requirements: 1. Good understanding of System Dynamics (through coursework acceptable); 2. Matlab Simulink/ Easy 5/ AMESim experience required; 3. Knowledge in linear controls preferred; 4. Experience in hydraulics highly preferred.

HUSCO International

HUSCO International, Inc. is a global leader in the development and manufacture of hydraulic and electro hydraulic controls for off-highway applications. Experienced in concurrent engineering practices, HUSCO provides support to the OEM engineers from the conceptual stage to the production stage of product development to maximize product value and performance.The intern will be embedded within an engineering team developing next generation valve control systems.    HUSCO is currently developing a suite of new hydraulic valve products for backhoes, skidsteers, excavators and farm tractors which make simultaneous improvements in efficiency, controllability and cost. Fluid power scholar will support the team activity through testing, analysis, brainstorming, hardware design, simulation and controls development activities.  HUSCO uses multiple machines fitted with expansive instrumentation in addition to simulation packages such as Matlab / Simulink and Easy5.  For design, HUSCO uses ProE and related supporting tools for CFD and fatigue analysis.  Most numerical analysis is done within Matlab and Excel.  All control system software is developed with Simulink and executed in a real time operating system on the machines.  Embedded controller software is written in C.

The Parker Hannifin Summer Internship Program was established to identify and develop college students who show promise of being productive Parker employees by providing real-world experience in disciplines critical to Parker’s business.

As an intern, you will gain experience while supporting the department’s function. Examples of projects and responsibilities may include:

 Engineering - - Design temperature control system, Plan and set up flow loops for endurance tests, Facilitate and Participate in 5S events, Produce standard work documents, Work in assembly and testing, Organize and catalog tests samples into Excel database, Design and model actuators in Pro/E; Measure precise amount of ingredients to mix to create rubber; Use a spectrometer to scan in samples of polymers and plasticizers for a database; use a 3D printing machine for prototype solid modeling; Create visual graph of greenhouse gas emissions; Machine spools and valves in Prototype using CNC and manual machining tools; Update a drawing of the plant using AutoCAD; Install pressure transducers on a hydraulic system.

Qualifications:

Currently pursuing a bachelorsdegree in Mechanical, Electrical or Controls Engineering at an accredited 4-yr college or university in the United States; Have completed at least one year of college; Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0; Demonstrated technical competence and analytical ability; Demonstrated ability to successfully complete projects, work in a team environment, display of leadership capabilities and professional maturity; Demonstrated confidence, excellent communication and writing skills; Good oral and written communication skills; At least one year’s experience with Microsoft Office software and the Internet; Coursework in Hydraulics or Fluid Power preferred, but not required
