2D: Design Optimization and Hybrid Fabrication (DOHF) of a High Performance Fluid Power Components
ABSTRACT
Many fluid power components used on ground-based vehicles and systems are designed with more mass than needed to perform their intended function. Opportunities to remove unnecessary mass on existing and future components are being leveraged today and even greater opportunities exist by leveraging recent advancements in the combination of design optimization and hybrid fabrication of fluid power components to remove the “dead-weight” and improve functionality. This presentation will introduce design optimization and hybrid fabrication and introduce the use of “Intertwined Lattice Structures” to advance component functionality. An update on the direction and status of DOHF efforts will conclude the presentation.
