PROJECT
1B: Advanced Surface Design for a New Generation of Pumps and Motors
ABSTRACT
Pump inefficiencies are a major barrier to the advancement of fluid power. The goal of Project 1B is to overcome this barrier through the development of a fully coupled fluid –structure-thermal and multi-body dynamics model based on the current CASPAR model. This model will be used to investigate novel surface design methods for the tribological systems in axial piston machines for the purpose of minimizing energy dissipation in the lubricating gaps and thereby increase the efficiency of axial piston machines. This presentation focuses on the work done thus far in this area and explains the need for a more comprehensive model. Simulation and measurement results for two tribological pairs, the piston-cylinder and the cylinder block-valve plate, will be discussed.
