Project / Leader: 3D - Dr. Richard Salant (Georgia Tech)

Title: Leakage reduction in fluid power systems.

Project Goal: In this project we want to develop computer models of fluid power seals, so that we can predict how a seal will behave before actually building it. We are especially interested in seal leakage and friction. These computer models will help engineers design new seals.

What is the problem?: One of the reasons why Fluid Power systems are not used as much as they could be is the problem of fluid leakage and the resulting environmental pollution.  Engineers who design seals today, do not have good computer tools to model their designs.

How to solve it?
By providing our industry partners with accurate, validated modeling tools for the next generation of seal designs.
