Title: High pressure, light weight components using engineered materials. Project Goal: This project will create special software capable of optimizing component designs, such as reducing the weight on a pump, and improving the strength of fluid power components through the use of designed materials. What is the problem?: Current design methods add extra material to the components so these can support the forces experienced during use. The extra material increases the weight, and reduces the efficiency of fluid power machines. This method copies nature in a sense, and attempts to create structures lead to the best design possible. How to solve the problem: New technologies allow for a reduction in weight and improvements in handling the forces applied during use, resulting in more efficient pumps and fluid power components.
